Just a few years ago, in 2017 to be specific, Alfa Romeo introduced the brand’s first production utility vehicle in the form of the Stelvio. Now, the Alfa Romeo provides an excellent compact luxury crossover option, building its reputation in a fairly diverse segment. We wanted see how the young Stelvio measures up against one of those competitors in its diverse segment, so we decided to pit it against the Audi Q5.
Audi has a bit more experience in creating luxury utility vehicles than Alfa Romeo, having introduced the Audi Q7 in 2005. The Q5 itself has been around since the 2009 model year, and is currently in its second generation.

Advantages of the Stelvio
In the table above, we took a look at a few of the most important aspects to consider when shopping for a utility vehicle like these two. It doesn’t take much to see that the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Audi Q5 are quite similar to one another, but each clearly has its advantages. In the first row of the table we looked at power, an area in which the Stelvio gets the nod, delivering an extra 32 horsepower more than the Q5. In addition, though it’s not in the table, the Stelvio’s 306 pound-feet of torque is 33 lb-ft. more than the Q5 deliver.

Through the city, both SUVs achieve 22 mpg, but the Alfa Romeo crossover gets an extra 1 mpg on the highway which translates to the combined advantage. However, the Audi Q5 has a sizeable advantage of its own, as shown in the third row. It offers a cargo area that is 6.6 cubic feet larger than the Stelvio provides.
The final row just shows that both utility vehicle deliver seating for up to 5, so they’re evenly matched in that regard.
