If you’re an Alfa Romeo aficionado, then you’re probably aware that the Giulia was a nameplate that originally ran from the 1962 to 1978 model years. In 2016, the nameplate was revitalized and reborn as the compact executive sedan you know and love today. The 4-door saloon is a popular choice in the small luxury car market, but that’s a market that’s filled with a lot of great options. We thought we’d see just how well the Alfa Romeo Giulia compares to one of its biggest competitors by pitting it in a side-by-side comparison with the BMW 330i.

Advantages of the Giulia
As you can see from the table above, these two sporty luxury sedans are quite comparable to one another in terms of the important specifications you’re likely taking into consideration. In the first two rows of the table we highlighted the sedans’ power ratings, starting with horsepower, an aspect in which the Giulia delivers an extra 25 HP. The difference in torque isn’t quite as vast as the BMW 330i only gives up 11 pound-feet of torque. Neither of those numbers seem all that big, but they will deliver a slightly more enjoyable driving experience.
However, having those superior power ratings does lead to the Giulia giving up a bit of fuel economy. The BMW 330i achieves an extra 3 miles per gallon combined across highway and city driving. Again, not a huge advantage, but it will lead to a bit of savings behind the pump for the BMW sedan. In the final row, however, we turned from power and efficiency to a straight-up performance spec. From a complete stop, the Giulia and 3 Series sedans can get up to 60 miles per hour in almost the same amount of time, but Giulia gets there a tenth of a second faster.
